BOLOGNA Italy

Grand Tours were important to classical education in arts and architecture from the 15th century until the advancing railways opened up Europe to easier travel and ultimately package holidays.  The timeless quality of Italian architecture, the variety of relationships between buildings and the legible heirarchy of spaces from industrial Milan,  artistic Verona, cultural cosmopolitan Bologna to hilly towns around Urbino and Pesaro, still stands scrutiny in the 21st century.
